Exclusive: Single moment that saw Block pair change their entire game plan – as the teams unpack their design style

EXCLUSIVE: This year, all five homes on The Block are the exact same size and layout – so differentiating each with its own signature style is going to be extra important come Auction Day.

From mid-century modern to country with a luxury twist, this year's Blockheads arrived in Daylesford with a clear idea of what they wanted to create... but it didn't work out for everyone.

In an exclusive video, Han and Can said they came into the competition with a very specific plan, but as we all know they did not get the house they wanted.

"We were going to do a 'luxe barnyard' style home but we got a very box modern contemporary home," Can explained.

"We thought, 'alright, how can we pare this back and make this feel like a sanctuary?' so 'arte-zen' was our style," she continued, although the couple couldn't quite agree on how to pronounce it!

They weren't the only couple to change their original plan too, as Emma and Ben explained how they pivoted from mid-century modern to more of a country vibe after taking inspiration from Daylesford's landscape.

"It's completely different to the style we would do back home," Ben admitted.

"We live on the coast so we are normally quite influenced by the bay," Emma agreed.

Adelaide best mates Robby and Mat gave their home an 'Australian contemporary country' feel, which Mat shortened with a nickname we can't even type out – you'll have to watch the video to find out what it is!

Alicia also had to step out of her style comfort zone after arriving in Daylesford and realising that her "neutral palette" wasn't going to work in the quirky country rown.

The Block airs Sundays at 7pm and continues Monday to Wednesday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 7:00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
