In the words of Married at First Sight expert, Mel Schilling, jealousy is something that
“rears its ugly head” often in relationships.

“It often relates to insecurity,” Schilling said.

“So whether that’s about insecurity about yourself and your worthiness to be in that relationship or perhaps you’re questioning the loyalty and trust of your partner.”

Expert Trish Stratford talks about a common phenomenon called “mate guarding” which often occurs in relationships where one, or both of the partners, wants to protect their other half from the ‘crowd’ and can often be taken as jealousy.

“We look after our mate and protect them in relationships so I think we become quite territorial in relationships.

“So we could call that jealousy in a sense, where we want to guard our patch, we don’t want anybody coming in.”
