We’ve all heard of people who claim to have a sex addiction (we’re looking at you Tiger Woods) but what you probably haven’t heard of is that people can also be addicted to relationships.

Married at First Sight expert and Neuropsychotherapist Trish Stratford explained that relationship addiction is common amongst single people.

“They chase somebody that they really like, they end up developing a relationship with them, and then they get bored with them after a few months then they’re onto the next person.”

Stratford explains that it’s related to “a sense of inadequacy within their personality”.

“It’s addictive but it’s exactly the same as the addictive process but the thing is the substance is different.”

Stratford even compared being addicted to relationships to being addicted to drugs.

“The more heroin you have the more you want, the more you’re addicted to relationships the more you want and you don’t actually see the other person, you’re only fulfilling what you need inside of you.”
