EXCLUSIVE: For the first time during his Married At First Sight journey, Dave was facing the wrath of the group after he seemingly backflipped on his feelings for wife Jamie.

In an exclusive interview with 9Entertainment, Dave addressed rumours that he'd developed romantic feelings for another bride and explained exactly why everybody was seeing such a different side to him.

At one point during Wednesday night's Dinner Party, co-star Adrian suggested that Dave's feelings for Jamie had changed because he'd developed an attraction towards Eliot's wife Veronica who he spent the Partner Swap task with.

Speaking to 9Entertainment, Dave categorically denied that there was anything romantic between him and Veronica.

"That's a definite no. Absolutely not. I would not be able to look at myself if I did that to somebody," Dave answered.

"This is real life, we're in an experiment but this is real life as well and that's something that – my morals just don't comprehend that."

During the night, Dave uttered five words that shocked his co-stars, the experts and audiences at home.

When asked about his feelings towards Jamie, he answered, "I don't hate the girl."

Dave was the first to admit it wasn't the perfect choice of words, but he was simply trying to explain that his feelings hadn't changed as drastically as everyone else had assumed.

"Jamie was obviously super, super upset and that's why I felt like she thought I hated her," he said.

"Everyone was coming at me and questioning me like, 'You absolutely don't like her?'"

But as far as Dave was concerned that wasn't the case, he was just trying to figure out his feelings at the time.

"I was under a lot of fire and yeah, I probably shouldn't have said that."

Dave admitted he regrets his choice of words when asked how he felt about Jamie.  Nine

Watching things back, Dave felt a "mirror was being held up" to him and he is definitely "learning a lot" about how he expresses his feelings.

The groom wanted to explain what Jamie, the experts and viewers thought were a sudden backflip in his feelings for his wife so far into the experiment.

"There had been so much going on – the Retreat, which was massive for us, I went home to see my dad, had the Dinner Party back in Sydney – my head was all over the place," Dave began.

"Then we got to Feedback Week and it was asking those questions of, 'Where was I at with Jamie?' Reflecting on it now, I didn't know where I was at."

Dave also said that the three weeks prior, when he and Jamie were embroiled in drama with Lauren, Clint and Carina, was a lot to take in.

"It's not an excuse but during that time Jamie was super stressed out and it was important for me to be attentive to that," he said.

Dave realised that in supporting Jamie and focusing on the conflict with his co-stars at the time, he didn't actually look at how he was feeling within his own relationship.

"It was a massive point, for me because I realised I didn't know how I felt [about Jamie] so I shut down," Dave continued.

"Obviously I hadn't been articulating my feelings so I just went into my shell. That's important for viewers to understand. It's an intense situation we're in."
