She also wasn't the only one who was frustrated with Harrison. Before he even made it to the couch, he copped heat from several of the brides and grooms, particularly Evelyn and Melinda, who accused him of bullying. "I look over and he just looks so smug and that frustrates me," Evelyn vented.

But Harrison was not looking smug when it came time to face the experts. When expert Mel Schilling asked the pair to define the status of their marriage, the group was immediately stunned to hear Harrison suggest they could work on their issues.

EPISODE 29 RECAP: Bronte returns to face Harrison at the final Commitment Ceremony

Harrison explained he felt he perhaps hadn't properly explained to Bronte what his dealbreakers were. He added that a partner breaking up with him and flying interstate to go home, was a dealbreaker he should have shared with Bronte.

Everyone was understandably confused.

The brides and grooms cringed and swapped exasperated glances as Harrison continued that he felt Bronte had attacked his character and he had felt the need to establish a boundary around that.

He said Bronte calling him a manipulator and then taking it back had upset him.

"Getting called stuff like that is really damaging," he shared, "and could potentially change my life."

Bronte emotionally denied being 'fake' or a 'gaslighter'. Nine

Mel confirmed the same boundaries were in place for him, in terms of how he spoke about Bronte.

It was then claimed he had called her a gaslighter and "fake", something Harrison failed to remember doing, despite Lyndall offering some helpful specifics.

"I genuinely don't recall," he claimed.

"That's not going to cut it," Mel retorted. "You can't play the amnesia card now.

"Surely Harrison, if you called your wife fake and a gaslighter, you'd remember that?"

"And I genuinely don't believe you!" Mel quipped, pointing out this was an ongoing pattern for the beleaguered groom. "It is so important that you can both be genuine and honest with each other on this couch."

She challenged Harrison on why he couldn't be honest about the fact he had crossed the very boundaries he had set for Bronte.

"I'm not a gaslighter, I'm not fake," Bronte added.

As everyone collectively held their breath, Bronte held up her card with the word 'stay' (plus an exclamation sign) written on it. She justified the shock twist by explaining she wanted Harrison to see her life back home.

Tahnee said: "It's a f--king joke."

"I know that the group have wanted me to explain how I got to this point and it's just hard to constantly have to hash that out," Bronte added, as tears formed in her eyes. "No matter what I say, it just doesn't feel good enough."

Melinda couldn't hold her tongue though. She reminded Harrison he had told the group he was "100% done" and was leaving the experiment. "'Unequivocally writing leave' was the phrase used," Lyndall added.

Harrison explained leaving would be an easy decision but remaining married would force him to work on the pair's issues. Bizarrely, Bronte beamed as she explained how excited she was to show Harrison around her hometown.

"I want more context to who Bronte is as a person," Harrison began but Ollie decided to interject. "Harry, did you not say at the Boys' Night that you didn't want to go to Perth at all?" he asked.

Harrison admitted he had indeed said that, as Melinda also reminded Harrison he had said Bronte "just wanted to hop in a bikini and show off."

Hearing that, Bronte visibly flinched and Harrison closed his eyes, and admitted he had said those things.

"This has got to stop Harrison," Mel said. "Just reflect back your own words, earlier. You're crossing your own boundary here."

Clearly stunned by the decision, the expert asked, "What is it that keeps the two of you together, after everything that you've dealt with? Why are you still here?"
