Samantha and Al are still in a rough patch and the Couples Retreat hasn't helped their struggling relationship on Married At First Sight.

In an effort to turn things around on the final night of the retreat, the 25-year-old pulled out a big surprise to impress her.

Al was keen to show Sam that he's trying to grow and listening to the experts, so he prepared a special poem for her.

The groom started his grand gesture by ripping a rose out of the garden, before telling the group he was waiting for the right moment to grab his wife.

"I'm kinda nervous ay, I'm nervous," he told the group before going over to approach Sam.

Al told the camera they haven't really spoken much throughout the retreat and things aren't going well.

"I feel like she's really disconnected from me at the moment and her writing 'leave' at the Commitment Ceremony has killed my confidence a little bit," he said.

"If I give up now, then I haven't given my 100 per cent and I did say in my vows that I would give my 100 per cent."

After waiting for the right moment Al grabbed Samantha for her chat, which he felt was his "last chance" to win her back.

"This is a symbol of new beginnings," he said, before the groom pulled a rose out from behind his back.

"I hope it means something to her because it really did mean a lot to me," he told the camera.

Here's the poem Al read to Samantha:

Dear Samantha, my beautiful wife,

I want to see you in my life.

It makes me sad, seeing that I let you down,

I hope this week, I can turn that around.

The conversations that we have from now on,

Will be in more detail and I will make sure, I will not fail.

You really are the apple of my eye,

And it was really hard to see you cry

I will also take John's advice and learn to grow up,

Also learn not to drink from a shoe, and instead, from a cup.

I will always cherish the memories we've been through together,

If things don't work out, at least we'll be friends forever.

"Did you like that?" Al asked, clearly proud of his efforts.
