'Breaking point': MAFS' Daniel Holmes opens up about his mental health struggles after sharing distressing post

Married At First Sight's Daniel Holmes has addressed a series of concerning Instagram story posts he made last week, which sparked concerns about his welfare and break up rumours.

The groom sat down with girlfriend Carolina Santos and opened up about his struggles with mental health.

"It was a really, really bad day for me the other day and maybe a build up of a lot of other stuff," he said in the video, which you can watch above.

"Most of my adult life... I've struggle with some form of mental health struggles and it's kind of escalated since MAFS has finished up."

Daniel went on to explain how there's been a lot of changes in his life recently, both highs and lows, which might be to blame.

"It's been a lot of changes and a lot of risks and a lot of rewards but also a lot of downfalls and, I guess, a lot of those downfalls happened at once and it kind of broke me a little bit," he said.

"Just a really bad day that I want to forget and move on from."

Carolina stepped in to thank their followers for all the love and support they've received over the past few days.

"It's just a bad day, we all have the bad days. We wouldn't be able to appreciate the good days if we didn't have the bad ones. We get through them," she added.

Daniel's previous post sparked concerns after stating he felt "lost, lonely, and scared".

"I feel immense pressure, I trust no one, I fail then fail again, the ones I love hurt me, I hurt them back," he wrote on his Instagram story.

The 31-year-old later apologised for his post, admitting he has "struggled" with his mental health "for years", and had hit "breaking point".

"I've struggled with my mental for years but particularly the last 6 months," he told his followers.

"Today was a breaking point for me and a level I never want to get to again and would rather forget. I'm only human."

The groom ended the post by assuring he was at home with Carolina by his side.

It's not the first time the MAFS star has opened up about his struggles, previously admitting he was addicted to steroids.

"It was an addiction that I didn't want to admit but the reality is I never really came off them in that seven to eight year window.

"Now going on eight months without them (big thanks to @carolinaschimidt for that also) I can look back and realise how much it affected my life. There's side effects that I'm still dealing with after the years of f---ing my hormones."
