Love Island UK's Shaughna Phillips gives an update from hospital as she urges women to keep up to date with pap smear tests

Love Island UK star Shaughna Phillips has made another plea with her followers, urging them to keep up to date with their smear tests.  

The 28-year-old was in hospital on Sunday for a colposcopy after contracting HPV in May. 

Sharing her experience with her 1.5 million followers, Shaughna posted a photo on her Instagram stories from the hospital ward.

"Sunday fun day? So I said I would be sharing my experience with you all and currently I'm s----ing my pants," she wrote on the image.

"Still screaming for ladies to book their smears!" 

Shaughna underwent a colposcopy, a procedure that checks whether there are abnormal cells in the cervix.

The reality star gave her fans another update after she got home from the hospital.

"How did the colposcopy go? Chilling and feeling sorry for myself for the rest of the day," she wrote alongside a clip of herself laying on the couch.

"Although I did have three nurses who were so lovely and made me feel looked after. Still screaming for ladies to book your smears if you're overdue."

She first opened up about her HPV diagnosis in May after going for a routine three yearly pap test.

"Yesterday I received my results and have had changes to some of the cells called 'borderline changes' that require further examination. I also tested HPV positive," she wrote in a post on Instagram.

"Of course, I was absolutely terrified initially and although everyone I've spoke to has reassured me how common this is, it is still scary.

"There's certain language used that I didn't realise I still have a real hard time hearing, 'biopsy', any word ending with 'oscopy', and of course, 'cancer', are all associated with trauma for me. So reading them in a letter addressed to me really, really knocked me."

She then praised some women who she follows on Instagram for reassuring her and making things seem "less scary", and hoped that sharing her own experience would help others. 

HPV is a common virus that can cause genital warts and some types of cancer, including cervical cancer.

There are more than 100 strains of HPV, and four out of five people in Australia have at least one kind of HPV virus at some time in their lives.

Shaughna found fame during Season 6 of Love Island UK but was unlucky in her search for love.

She was Coupled Up with Callum Jones, however he chose to Re-Couple with Molly Smith during the Casa Amor twist.
