Love Island Australia's Tayla Damir opens up about endometriosis diagnosis

Tayla Damir has opened up about finally getting a diagnosis for her health after years of "stomach and hormone issues".

The Love Island Australia star shared the news that she has endometriosis with her more than 500,000 Instagram followers, alongside a snap of herself in a hospital bed.

The 24-year-old revealed that she had been struggling for years without knowing what was wrong with her, pushing her to get an answer.

After getting extremely bloated, fatigued and experiencing mood swings for years, her pain and symptoms "heightened" at the start of 2020. Tayla listed what she was experiencing.

"I was having:

• Excessive hot flushes
• Excruciating period pain.
• As you can see in the pics, I would have a hot pack on my bare skin, so that pain would hurt more than the pain of the cramps.
• Nauseous around my ovulation and period.
• Abdominal pain whenever I ran or did any HIIT training.
• Fatigue which was hard because I appeared well, but on the inside I knew something was wrong with my body.

"I went to hospital early last year with pain that turned out to be cysts. From here I was recommended to see Dr Catarina Ang. She was the first gyne [gynaecologist] to listen.

"I had my first laparoscopy on Friday to confirm if I had Endometriosis [a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus].

"The endo was discovered growing on the left tube but thankfully I only had a very small amount. We also discovered I have an overactive pelvic floor which is where most of my pain comes from so I'll be doing lots of physio therapy to get that under control," Tayla wrote in the post.

The former reality star said despite still being in pain, she felt gratitude now that she finally had answers. She said the small amount of endometriosis she suffered from had now been removed.

The 24-year-old also revealed her post was to "remind people to listen to their bodies". She also thanked her Love Island Australia co-star Erin Barnett and beauty therapist Kylie Brown for being open about endometriosis on social media, adding that it allowed her to relate and keep investigating for answers.

Her post was flooded with messages of support, with Erin writing "Aw Tayla! You're so bloody strong! Thank you for sharing your story with everyone. We are all here to support you beautiful xxxx."

Erin has been extremely open about her ongoing struggle with Endometriosis, recently posting revealing photos and a VLOG to her YouTube of her 16th surgery for endometriosis.

"You are welcome gorge. I'm so glad you saw Catarina, she's the best. Rest up xxx," Kylie Brown commented.

Tayla posted multiple pictures in hospital following her operation to have her endometriosis removed, as well as pictures showing herself bloated or in pain.

Tayla rose to fame on Season 1 of Love Island Australia, and is currently dating AFL star Nathan Broad, who's a three-time premiership player with the Richmond Football Club.

Pictures of the couple together date back to December 2019 when they visited Bali.

Tayla also shared a grid of images showing the couple loved up, which she promised she would never leak.

"I told him no one would see these photos. I guess that's the last time he will believe that. Worth it though."
