Mullets, pearl necklaces and hilarious sayings: The unexpected trends that have come out of Love Island Australia 2022

It's been one hell of a season of Love Island Australia 2022 so far.

And while we've watched our Islanders fall in love, get Dumped and play some very racy challenges, we've also picked up a few unexpected trends along the way.

From wild hairstyles to statement jewellery and hilarious sayings, we've collated some of the biggest trends to sweep the Villa this season – and we're sure it won't be long before we see them take hold across Australia in the summer...

Austen's necklace

Everyone knows that Austen is a fashion icon, but there's one piece of jewellery that has really caught the eyes of viewers this season.

Yep, almost every day the hunk completes his looks with a pearl necklace.

Sweetly enough, the choice is actually in homage to his favourite artist, Harry Styles, who often wears one around his neck.

Austen also has a tattoo in his idol's handwriting on his right arm that reads: "Will be alright."

"You can get caught up in the stresses of life, and it's important to know that in the end [it] will be alright, it's going to be fine," he explained during the Baywatch challenge earlier in the season.

We've also seen Tak, Callum and Jordan sporting pearl necklaces this season, so it's clear that our Austen is quite the trailblazer when it comes to Villa fashion.

The sayings

As usual, Love Island has delivered some sayings that we can't get out of our head.

Callum in particular has said some absolute zingers this year, such as "proper mega" and "banging" to describe how hot someone is, right down to the phrase "bish, bash, bosh" to polish off any sentence.

Not to mention the girls' secret code names for getting intimate, including "snacks, appetizers, entrees, main meals" and of course, the "full banquet" – a dish which four of the Islanders have enjoyed in the Villa this year.

Nose rings

Some people wonder if the nose ring is a true fashion piece, or something we should leave in the nineties.

But then Austen and Claudia come along, don matching ones and look so unbelievably cool doing it.

It's safe to say the nose ring is very, very cool once again, and we expect them all across Bondi Beach this summer.

Double sunglasses

Why have one pair of sunglasses, when you can have two?

We've seen some of the Islanders sporting not one, but two pairs of shared on their head – particularly Jordan and his hot pink pair – and it's actually quite the look.

Last season's Love Island UK winner Davide Sanclimenti also donned the bizarre look during his season, so we're expecting big things from the trend this summer.

The Mullet

Now we all know that Jordan didn't exactly create the mullet, but there's something about seeing it every single day in the Villa that really makes you bloody adore it.

While some of the ladies weren't instantly keen on his unruly locks, it's fair to say that it's grown on all of them.

Before entering the Villa, Jordan said he would never get rid of the mullet for any lady.

"It's working for me. Girls seem to love it, I don't know why!" he laughed.
