Watch: Stunning Getaway footage captures rare moment rain pours down on Uluru

When you think of Uluru, images of the sun beating down on the red rock with dry grassy plains surrounding it come to mind. Rarely do we think of the iconic natural wonder being battered by rain.

Former Getaway presenter Jules Lund was lucky enough to witness the "fluke of nature" while there filming a segment for the show.

If you happen to experience wet weather during a visit instead of a typical sunny day, you'd actually be experiencing something pretty special, with only slightly more than 300mm of rain falling at Uluru each year.

The highlights of Jules' Uluru trip, which have been re-released to mark Getaway's 30th season, show the scenery is just as spectacular in rain, as it is in the sun.

"Around 5.30pm, in fading light the scene began to turn magical, and even in these extreme conditions the word awesome fitted perfectly," Jules says. "As we splashed our way towards the base the waterfalls were getting heavier and louder. Mother Nature was absolutely turning it on for a privileged few."
