Highlights:
Livinia’s grand journey with Scenic began in Dublin, a city humming with beautiful parks, historic landmarks, and warm hospitality. Exploring with a local guide, Livinia crossed the River Liffey on Ha’penny Bridge and wandered through Temple Bar to the lush parklands of St Stephen’s Green. Then over to the 800 year old St Patrick’s Cathedral, the largest in Ireland, which was saved from disrepair and restored by the Guinness family in the 1860s.
With Scenic’s handpicked Freechoice options, travellers have the flexibility to tailor their days to their exact interests. For Livinia, this meant diving into the history of Ireland’s most famous brew at the interactive, seven-story Guinness Storehouse. On a guided tour, she learned all about the brewery, production and the perfect pour. Of course the tour ended with a fresh pint at the Gravity Bar.
The fully escorted small group tour left Dublin and headed southwest to the Ring of Kerry, a 180 kilometre circular route through some of Ireland’s most pristine countryside. Along the way they had time to pop into the historic Red Fox Inn for a warm Irish welcome in the form of a traditional Irish coffee. Sweetened coffee and a shot of whiskey, topped with whipped cream truly kick-started the day! North of the Ring of Kerry, the Atlantic Ocean crashes into the dramatic Cliffs of Moher. Rising over 200 metres out of the water, the shale and sandstone cliffs stretch for 14 kilometres.
Crossing into Northern Ireland, the group arrived in its capital, Belfast. Livinia’s absolute highlight there was a visit to Titanic Belfast, an experience included with her Scenic tour. The state-of-the-art museum stands at the exact height of the legendary ship and built right where the ship was designed, constructed, and launched. The fantastic building is full of interactive exhibits and artefacts rescued from the water. Heading into the city centre, Livinia admired the grand Belfast City Hall, before visiting the imposing Peace Walls constructed during the "Troubles” in 1969, separating Catholic and Protestant neighbourhoods. Guests gained a deep understanding of the city's complex history and how community relations have successfully paved the way for a unified future.
Crossing the Irish Sea to Scotland by ferry over her morning cuppa, Livinia still had the afternoon to explore. With Scenic taking care of the logistics, Livinia could sit back and enjoy the journey. Her first Scottish stop was Stirling Castle, not just a fortress, it was also a royal palace. Inside the magnificently restored Great Hall, Livinia stepped back in time to 1556, sitting on the Queen’s throne imagining a three-day royal feast held by Mary, Queen of Scots.
With Scenic, the daily experiences extend far beyond sightseeing. Scenic’s Special Stays pair great locations with amazing properties, such as Cameron House. The five-star luxury resort on the shores of Loch Lomond dates back more than 600 years, and blends historic character with modern elegance. To top off the grand experience, Livinia boarded the resort’s motor cruiser to explore the deep waters of the loch once navigated by Vikings, taking in the dramatic highland views.
Scenic luxury land journeys offer an unparalleled blend of rich history, deep-guided insights, and sublime comfort. From wind swept cliffs to industrial heritage, majestic lochs to ancient castles, somehow each day topped the last. Livinia couldn’t wait for the next chapter where the tour continued on to Edinburgh and then south to England.
