Livinia Nixon takes a Scenic luxury land journey through the stirring landscapes of Britain and Ireland
Highlights:
Few cities in the world can weave centuries of regal splendour and dramatic history into a vibrant, modern tapestry quite like London. As the captivating final stop on a sweeping journey through Britain and Ireland, Scenic includes a few days to explore its historic streets.
Scenic books guests into hotels that are every bit as memorable as the destination, and in London it was Great Scotland Yard Hotel. Full of history and mystery, every corner has a story to tell, as over the centuries it has been a residence for Scottish royalty, government offices, and most famously, headquarters of the Metropolitan Police. The meticulously preserved heritage elements blend seamlessly with luxury boutique amenities, part hotel, part museum.
The location is a short walk from many of London’s top attractions, and Livinia’s expert Scenic guide helped to bring the city to life with historic tales and interesting facts. They made their way down ‘The Mall’, which has long served as the ceremonial roadway for jubilees, royal weddings and state funerals. Livinia witnessed the pomp and regalia of The Changing of the King’s Life Guards, before continuing down to London’s most famous address, Buckingham Palace. The King’s official residence is actually more of an administrative headquarters as he chooses to live in nearby Clarence House.
Through St James Park with swans and squirrels aplenty, and under Admiralty Arch, they arrived at Trafalgar Square. The cultural and geographical heart of London was completed in 1840 to commemorate Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Heading toward Westminster, the political heart of the capital, Livinia marvelled at the spectacular Gothic Palace of Westminster with its famous clock tower. No journey through London is complete without experiencing a walk along the River Thames, a fitting end to an immersive day in London.
After an incredible luxury journey across Britain and Ireland with Scenic, the capital proved to be an unforgettable highlight. A celebration of rich heritage, enduring stories, and dynamic modern life that leaves every traveller longing to return.
