Highlights:
The charming coastal village of Metung is nestled in Victoria’s Gippsland Lakes region, 3.5 hours drive east from Melbourne. Long celebrated for its boating, fishing, and relaxed lifestyle, this idyllic destination has become the ultimate setting for a rejuvenating wellness getaway.
One of the area's most indulgent experiences is Metung Hot Springs, spanning across 25 hectares of picturesque hillside, on the shores of Lake King. Visitors are encouraged to pause and unwind, with multiple geothermal pools, wooden bathing barrels, soothing saunas, revitalizing cold plunges and spa treatments available. David eased himself into the naturally heated bubbling mineral waters, noting that within thirty seconds every clenched muscle loosened into pure relaxation. He likened it to marinating in serenity, and after a shocking cold plunge, he reclined in the lagoon sauna.
The best way to get the full hot springs experience is to stay in their on-site premium glamping accommodation, which includes access to all bathing experiences throughout your stay. Ten safari-style tents are thoughtfully positioned to maximise privacy while offering sweeping vistas over the Gippsland Lakes. Far removed from roughing it, each tent is appointed with a king-sized bed, an ensuite bathroom and private deck complete with outdoor soaking barrels.
Metung Village is a five-minute drive from the hot springs and a lovely spot for a stroll on the boardwalk, a game of golf or a bite to eat. Aroma coffee house and eatery is run by former Melburnians who were in search of fresh air, starlit skies and coastal tranquility. They infuse their Greek heritage into a menu that evolves with the seasons and Saturday night dinner and dancing.
After a wander around the village, David was drawn back to the mineral-rich geothermal waters. There really was something magical about the hot springs. When life gets too complicated, too fast, and too stressful, being in and surrounded by water invites you to pause, let go and be calm.
