Lincoln Lewis recently found an exhilarating way to experience the Barossa Valley, South Australia's famed wine region. Forget tour buses and crowded cellar doors, get the wind in your hair and take in the aromas of the vineyards as you cruise along on a personalised trike tour.

Highlights:
The beautiful Barossa Valley, one of Australia's oldest wine regions, is about an hours drive north-east of Adelaide. Lincoln joined Tony from Barossa Unique Tours on a sightseeing adventure with a difference! Riding high in the back of the bright yellow motorcycle trike, Lincoln enjoyed being out in the elements as they made their way through the region's hot spots.
The first stop was Cirillo Wines, which lays claim to the world's oldest living Grenache vineyard, dating back to 1848! Beside the gnarled, ancient vines, owner Marco Cirillo shared the vineyard's history as he poured Lincoln a taste of their famed 2018 Ancestor Vine Grenache. The wine, with its lovely ruby-golden colour and delicate smoothness, was a testament to the single vineyard heritage.
From the vineyards, they cruised to Angaston, a charming town with another Barossa specialty: cheese. The Barossa Cheese Company has 14 different styles of cheese, all made with ingredients sourced from nearby farms. As part of a cheese tasting plate, Lincoln tried their award winning and deliciously soft triple cream white mould cheese which just melted in his mouth.
The trike tours can be tailored to guests desires, but nearly always include a drive along the aptly named Avenue of Palms towards Seppeltsfield Winery. However rather than head to the winery, they visited the nearby Seppeltsfield Road Distillers. In their purpose built tasting room, Lincoln was guided through a gin tasting flight, with the bright, floral, citrus 'House' gin a particular highlight!
Pindarie Wines, a spectacular property with 40 hectares of vines and a 300-hectare farm, was the final stop of the day. Located on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley, the heritage stables have been converted into a tasting room where you can discover their warm hospitality. Lincoln joined owner Tony Brooks for a drink on the verandah overlooking the sustainably grown vines and rolling hills beyond.
