'My mates didn't come home': The Summit sneak peek introduces trekker Phil, a survivor of the 2002 Bali Bombings

Get ready: TV's biggest adventure, The Summit is about to return.

In Season 2, 14 new strangers are set to take on the challenge of a lifetime to try and win their share of $1 million.

Before the series hits our screens, a brand new teaser trailer – which you can watch above – offers our first glimpse at who those strangers will be and the adrenaline-charged obstacles they will need to overcome.

In the promo, we meet Phil, a 43-year-old survivor of the 2002 Bali Bombings.

"I was the captain of a footy club, we were there to have the time of our lives," he recalls in the promo.

"Seven of my mates didn't come home."

Phil says as he laid in hospital, he thought about the life he "was about to lose".

"Meeting the woman of my dreams, having kids, and that's what drove me to survive," he shares.

"What's going to drive me up this mountain is the family I do have."

Once again, The Summit crew will work as a team through rugged terrain, wild weather and obstacles to carry the cash to the top of one of New Zealand's highest peaks.

The promo teases the tense, high-octane tasks trekkers will face including pulling themselves across a rope suspended high above the ground.

It also hints at the type of team player Phil will be.

"I put my hand up to carry the load, and I will continue to carry the load for every single one of you guys," he tells the group.

Jai Courtney returns has the host of The Summit Season 2.

The trekkers must reach the peak of a distant mountain in just 14 days to win an equal share of the $1 million dollars they're carrying in their backpacks.

But if a trekker falters and gets left behind, so does their share of the money, reducing the size of the cash pot.

And if the group fails to reach the summit in time, all the prize money will be lost.
