Watch: A 'terrifying and magnificent' obstacle stops the final three in their tracks on The Summit 2024

EXCLUSIVE: If hiking 8000 feet up a mountain isn't daunting enough, how about squeezing through a tiny tunnel made entirely of ice?

The final three trekkers on The Summit – Mat, Simmone and Charlotte – came across the obstacle on their final ascent up the mountain and in some parts, it became so tight they could not fit through with their backpacks.

In an exclusive and unseen video from the moment, Mat declared the tunnel "gnarly" as he cautiously entered.

"When you get to an obstacle, your heart goes in your mouth and you just think 'what have we got here?' The closer you get, the more brutal they become," he said.

As the tunnel went on, it became so small they had to feed their backpacks through and crawl behind them.

"It's tight in there, it's dangerous, it's sketchy," Simmone said. "You have to have your wits about you to get through that tiny hole at the end."

It also presented another challenge for the trio, who were racing the clock to make it to the summit before the end of their 15-day deadline.

"It's one of the final pushes over the finish line, but the space was so incredibly beautiful that you couldn't help but slow down and be very, very present," Charlotte said, adding she "loved every minute" in the frozen tunnel.

They successfully squeezed themselves through the "terrifying and magnificent" space, making it through one of the most unique landscapes of their Summit adventure.
