Camping is the perfect way to explore the great outdoors, especially when you're on a budget.

Adventuring in the outdoors, however, does require campers to be prepared for a variety of weather situations and visits from native wildlife, which can be tricky if you haven't packed the right gear.

Luckily, organising expert Anita Birges has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to making sure she's always prepared for any situation. She shares the five things that she never goes camping without. Watch the video above to learn more.

Moving beyond the "obvious" items such as tents, sleeping bags, and air mattresses, Birges says there are a few items often overlooked that will make your camping trip a breeze.

Her first must-bring items are torches and lanterns.

"You can hang [lanterns] up in the gazebo, you need it when you're walking around at night," Birges says.

Secondly, Birges recommends packing a billy — a lightweight cooking pot in the form of a metal bucket — for boiling water, or making coffee and tea.

Another concept that can be tricky at times is food storage, especially when it comes to perishables, wine, or other foodstuffs that need to remain cool and out of the harsh sun.

To remedy this logistical challenge, Birges highly recommends bringing a "good cooler," and also encourages campers not to forget that pantry items like chips, cereals and bread can benefit from being stored in a sealable storage box.

"You want to have something that seals and locks up, so those animals and insects can't get in there and eat [the food]," Birges advises.

Bringing a first aid kit is a given, but it's also pivotal to include other essential items for outdoor adventure, like sunscreen, insect repellent, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitiser and toilet paper.

The most important item that Birges personally recommends, however, is a comfy camping chair.
