'Weird' Donald Trump statistic emerges before Madison Keys' upset victory
Before Madison Keys' final started, an intriguing statistic came across the Channel Nine desk.
It related to American Australian Open winners and US president elections.
In this century, every time a new president is sworn into office in the USA when the Australian Open is happening, an American woman has won the Australian Open.

2001 was the first. George W. Bush was elected and Jennifer Capriati won.
Serena Williams won the Australian Open in 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in. Williams won again in 2017 after Trump's first inauguration.

So it only seemed like fate that Keys would go on to win. That she did.
Although she wasn't too impressed with the stat.
"That's really weird," she said on Nine.
"I mean, go me for continuing it, but that's weird."
