Zachary Gates

Australian tennis champion Ash Barty has delivered Rod Laver a beautiful tribute after clinching victory on the court named after the legendary figure.

Barty withstood plucky American Amanda Anisimova in a 6-4 6-3 win to advance to the quarter-final stage of the Australian Open, setting up a match against Jessica Pegula of the USA.

The world No.1 from Queensland then fielded a couple of questions about Australian tennis royalty Laver in her press conference.

Pablo Carreno Busta v Matteo Berrettini live scores: Italian storms through to quarter-final stage

Zachary Gates

Italian world No.7 Matteo Berrettini has accounted for Spanish world No.21 Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets, charging to a 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win at Rod Laver Arena.

The victory was inspired by an incredible serving performance, in which the 25-year-old recorded 28 aces and a first-serve percentage of 86 to set up a quarter-final clash with French livewire Gael Monfils.

Berrettini took two hours and 22 minutes to eliminate his rival and in doing so became a quarter-finalist of all four grand slams.

Doubles great Todd Woodbridge described Berrettini's serving performance as "a serving masterclass" on Nine's Wide World of Sports, while former tennis professional Sam Groth labelled his serving stats "unbelievable".

Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt was also enormously impressed.

"He is a complete player but the serving tonight was the big strength from Matteo," Hewitt said.

"He is going to be tough no matter who he comes up against for the rest of this tournament."

Pablo Carreno Busta v Matteo Berrettini live scores: Italian claims tiebreak

Zachary Gates

Italian world No.7 Matteo Berrettini is up 7-5 7-6 in his fourth-round clash with Spanish world No.21 Pablo Carreno Busta after clinching a second-set tiebreak.

"He's just taking the match out of Carreno Busta's hands completely on his service games," said former Australian tennis professional Sam Groth on Nine's Wide World of Sports.

Australian doubles great Todd Woodbridge added: "That can get quite demoralising, can't it?".

The winner of this match will meet French world No.20 Gael Monfils in the quarter-final stage.

Pablo Carreno Busta vs Matteo Berrettini live scores - Wild shot scares umpire

Chris De Silva

Matteo Berrettini may be one of the smoothest operators on the men's circuit, but as Nick Kyrgios did earlier today, he's shown that even the best can fluff some shots.

Berrettini almost took out chair umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore in the first set of his fourth-round match against Spanish No.19 seed Pablo Carreno Busta with an errant backhander.

The incident occurred with the scores tied at 4-4 on the opening set when a vicious Carreno Busta forehand caused the Italian to stretch himself towards the corner of the court.

He got his racquet to the ball but there was only one problem: the ball went nowhere near the court.

The ball zoomed past Asderaki-Moore, who lent back in her chair to avoid being hit before letting out somewhat of a nervous laugh.

Pablo Carreno Busta vs Matteo Berrettini live scores - Italian takes opening set

Chris De Silva

Matteo Berrettini has taken the early lead in his fourth-round clash against Pablo Carreno Busta at Rod Laver Arena.

It was a tense opening set, but with the scores tied at 5-5 in the opening set, the Italian No.7 seed was able to break Carreno Busta, before serving out the set to take it 7-5.

Both players were fairly dominant in their service games, with only two break points taking place during the entire set - one to each player.

Berrettini won 20 out of 24 first serve points while Carreno Busta won 14 out of 19 on his own first serve.

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Gael Monfils live scores - French fairytale continues

Zachary Gates

French crowd favourite Gael Monfils has secured his ticket to the quarter-final stage in a straight-sets victory over Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic at John Cain Arena.

The 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 win saw the former world No.6 continue his extraordinary career comeback, after he last year crashed out of the Australian Open in the first round and broke down in tears in his press conference.

Monfils' serving game, coverage of the court and interaction with the crowd were again at their sublime best as he advanced to an Australian Open quarter-final for the second time in his career.

The 11-title superstar recorded 18 aces and at one stage won 20 games in succession.

Monfils will meet the winner of Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta and Italian Matteo Berrettini in the quarter-final stage.

"They broke the mould when they created this guy," said Robbie Koenig on Nine's Wide World of Sports as Monfils wrapped up the match.

"At 35 years of age he is playing some of the best tennis of (his career)."

Nicholas Monroe added: "Gael was dropping heat out here tonight. He was using that ice towel to cool down at the changeovers, but he wasn't cool out there on the court. My man was electric".
