Sochi Winter Sports: Nordic Combined

There are three men’s Nordic Combined events in the Sochi program. The individual event with a normal hill ski jump, the individual event with a large hill ski jump, and the team event.

The Nordic Combined events have been contested since the first Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924. Originating in Norway it combines a Ski Jumping competition and a Cross Country Skiing race.
Fast fact:
The Gundersen Method, which has been used since Calgary 1988, sees competitors line up for the cross country component based on the results of the ski jumping. The jumping points are added up and every ten points equals a minute in difference to the starting times. For example, a competitor with a one point ski jumping lead, would start six seconds ahead of the next competitor.

The team event sees four competitors from each team have two jumps from the large hill before a 4 x 5km relay.
Venue:
The RusSki Gorki Jumping Centre is located in Esto-Sadok village on the northern slope of the Aibga Ridge and will host the ski jumping and Nordic combined at the Sochi Games.
