Samu Kerevi's Grand Slam tour is over after the Wallabies star copped a three-game ban for a dangerous tackle against Wales.

Australia centre Kerevi clattered Wales flanker Jac Morgan high early in the second half of Monday's (AEDT) record 52-20 win in Cardiff.

An initial yellow card was upgraded to red as a forlorn Kerevi had to watch the rest of his 50th Test from the sidelines.

World Rugby found on Wednesday (AEDT) the 31-year-old's hit was worthy of a three-game suspension, although it will be reduced to two if he successfully completes a trip to tackle school.

Kerevi has therefore been scrubbed out of Monday's (AEDT) date with Scotland in Edinburgh and he will travel back to Japan.

Kerevi, who plays his club rugby for Urayasu D-Rocks, wasn't available for Australia's final tour match against Ireland on December 1 (AEDT) anyway as it falls outside of the official international window.

That means he will serve the second game of his suspension in Japan.

It also opens the door for Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii to return to the starting side against Wales and Scotland as the Wallabies attempt to win just their second ever Grand Slam (beating England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland on one tour).

Suaalii starred on debut against England but was replaced in the run on side by Kerevi against Wales.
