The US Open has seen a day of drama after China’s Peng Shuai departed her semi-final in a wheelchair.
China’s Shuai was forced to abandoned her match trailing Caroline Wozniacki 7-6 (7-1) 4-3 after twice collapsing with cramp.
Her tearful exit provoked a verbal barrage from tennis great John McEnroe who labelled the moment as a ‘black eye’.
