MICHAEL PHELPS' GOLDEN FAREWELL
Phelps, who is by far the most decorated athlete in Olympic history, finished with five golds and a silver in Rio after signing off in dramatic style by coming to his team's rescue in the 4x100m medley relay. (AFP)
USAIN BOLT'S REIGN CONTINUES
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt cruised to the 100m title – the first leg of his historic "triple triple" attempt. (Getty)
Bolt claimed the historic Olympic "triple triple" by firing the Jamaican men's 4x100m relay to gold.
He successfully won the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay events at Rio, after winning the same events at the Beijing and London Olympics in 2008 and 2012 respectively. (AFP)

AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS WIN
Australia's world-title winning women claimed an historic gold medal by defeating New Zealand 24-17 in the first Olympic women's rugby sevens final. (AFP)
The team, made up of largely former touch football players who were recruited five years ago, produced a brilliant display of attacking sevens and were also able to negate their opponents' strengths. Here, Ellia Green scores a try. (AFP)
