Heartbreak as after-the-siren fall denies Aussie Ruby Trew place in skateboarding final

Australian skateboarder Ruby Trew has fallen heartbreakingly short of a place in the women's park final, with a crash on her final trick of the heats.
Sitting in 11th going into her final run of the qualification round, Trew needed a score above 82.29 to seal a top-eight position and get a shot at the medals.
She started in strong fashion, appearing to give herself a genuine chance of getting the score she needed, only to fall while trying to land her final trick of the run.

The buzzer had already sounded when she hit the asphalt, but because Trew had started the move with time left on the clock, the crash counted against her score.
The judges awarded the effort 70.80 – well short of both the required score and the 77.89 Trew got for her first run.
In better news for Australia, countrywoman Arisa Trew (same last name as, no relation to Ruby) not only made it to the final but won gold to become the nation's youngest-ever Olympic medallist.
