Arisa Trew becomes Australia's youngest-ever Olympic medallist with gold in women's park skateboarding

Arisa Trew has shattered 68 years of Olympic history to become Australia's youngest-ever medallist, winning gold in the women's park skateboarding final.

Born on May 12, 2010, Trew is too young to vote, drink or even be allowed to stay at the Olympic village, but that didn't stop her from getting the better of the rest of the skateboarding field with a sensational performance when the medals were on the line.

Heading into her third and final run, Trew was sitting in the bronze medal place and looking a good chance of making the podium, however her best performance was yet to come.

"My coach, Trev, he was just like, 'you've just got to go all out," she told Nine after being crowned champion.

"And I was just like, 'yep, who cares? Just all or nothing'."

The 14-year-old took home a score of 93.18 for an incredible final display, pushing her up into top spot.

She then had to endure what should have been a tough wait as the skaters who qualified higher than the Aussie attempted to better her mark with their own final runs – not that you'd have guessed it from how she was cheering on her competitors.

Japan's Cocona Hiraki came closest with the final performance of the competition, but it wasn't enough to take the gold off Trew, who became not just Australia's youngest-ever medallist, but also our youngest champion in Olympic history.

That record had stood for 68 years, going all the way back to Melbourne 1956, when Sandra Morgan won gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay.

Morgan had been 14 years and 184 days old then – 94 days older than Trew, who has also become the youngest athlete to take home a medal at Paris 2024 so far.

"It's really crazy," she said.

"I'm just so excited. It's just so many emotions at once."

Hiraki (92.63) and Sky Brown of Great Britain (92.31) both came within a point of the Australian to take the silver and bronze respectively.
