PARIS: The greatest pole vaulter the world has ever seen, Swedish superstar Armand Duplantis, iced a gold-winning performance by breaking his own world record in Paris' north on Tuesday morning (AEST).
Left with one final world record attempt at 6.25 metres, the man known as "Mondo" got a crowd of some 75,000 people clapping him at the top of the runway, then bounded in and soared over the bar, taking down his own world record of 6.24m.
The US' Sam Kendricks won silver and Greek Emmanouil Karalis claimed bronze.
Australia's Kurtis Marschall finished sixth.

PARIS: Armand "Mondo" Duplantis fails for a second time at 6.25m in the men's pole vault final, leaving him with one last shot at breaking his own world record.
Regardless of whether he tops his world record of 6.24m, he'll be leaving the Stade de France this morning (AEST) as a double Olympic champion.
The 70-80,000 spectators in the arena tonight are loving the show the Swedish freak is putting on.

PARIS: Swedish pole vault champion Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, who's had the gold medal wrapped up for a while now, fails on his first attempt at 6.25m.
We now wait to see if he'll have another crack at breaking his own world record.
