PARIS: Another day done in Paris and another day dominated by the women.

The Australian swim stars won another gold medal to hammer home their relay dominance, as did Simone Biles.

Golden girls do it again

The relay dominance continued for the Aussie women in the pool, with 4x200m freestyle team of Mollie O'Callaghan, Lani Pallister, Brianna Throssell and Ariarne Titmus flirting with a world record as they obliterated the field to win gold.

In the end, they had to settle for an OIympic record as the Titmus-anchored team touched well ahead of the USA and China.

It was the Dolphins' fifth gold medal in the pool this week - all won by women.

There's every chance there's more gold to be had, too, if the semi-finals are anything to go by.

In his fourth Olympics, Australia's Cameron McEvoy qualified equal-fastest for tomorrow's 50m freestyle final with a dead-heat first-placed finish.

Kaylee McKeown qualified second-fastest for the 200m backstroke final as she looks to complete the double after winning gold in the 100m backstroke earlier this week.

She's also got the 200m individual medley to come.

The GOAT does it again

The US gymnasts have dubbed their Paris campaign the "redemption tour" after missing the team gold in Tokyo.

They secured that redemption with gold in the team final on Tuesday, led by superstar Simone Biles.

The greatest gymnast of all-time then did it again on Thursday in the individual all-around final, winning her sixth Olympic gold medal.

Australia's Ruby Pass finished 13th.

Windsurfer locks in a medal - but which colour?

Australia's Grae Morris is "pretty bloody happy" and guaranteed a medal after reaching the final of the windsurfing in the south of France.

Morris, a former rugby fullback making his Olympic debut, vowed to spend the night with a "big dinner, good dessert and a great sleep".

The three final windsurfers will race for gold at Marseille Marina on Saturday morning (AEST).

Aussie BMX star overcomes illness to blitz quarters

Saya Sakakibara and her family have been through a lot in the past few years, with her own brutal crash at Tokyo 2020 and her brother Kai's horrific fall that left him with life-changing injuries.

The adversity continued for the Australian BMX racing star, who revealed after dominating her quarter-final runs on Thursday she'd been sick in the days prior and had missed a practice session.

Aussie beach volleyballers into knockouts

Inside the most spectacular of the Olympic stadiums, Australia's Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar were dominant as they dispatched with Canadians Heather Bansley and Sophie Bukovek to reach the knockout stage.

The Aussie pair spoke to WWOS after the win, admitting they took a moment to appreciate the spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower above them.

Opals bounce back

The Opals got back on the winner's list after their shock trouncing by Nigeria with a convincing 70-65 victory over Canada in their second group match.

Sami Whitcomb starred with 19 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, while a half-time buzzer-beater from Cayla George got the Opals humming at the main break.

The women's 3x3 basketball team, the Gangurrus, also had a glorious run to win all three of their matches to sit second in the tournament.

Aussie walks to bronze

The athletics program at Paris 2024 kicked off with the 20km race walk through the picturesque streets of the French capital.

Two-time Commonwealth Games champion Jemima Montag, who finished seventh at Tokyo, improved on that result to win a maiden Olympic medal with bronze on the women's race.

And didn't she love it, with a little jig on the podium.

Boxing controversy rears its head

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif was disqualified from last year's world championships after failing an unspecified gender eligibility test.

Her competition in the women's event at Paris 2024 has been divisive and the issue exploded after a bizarre bout against Italian Angela Carini, who quit the fight just 46 seconds in after copping a single blow to the head.

"I have never been hit so hard in my life. It's up to the IOC to judge," Carini, who slumped to her knees in tears after the bout, said afterwards.
