Penrith and Blues legend Greg Alexander has cast doubt over the debut of Addin Fonua-Blake in the New South Wales team.

The Sharks prop has essentially taken the place of injured prop Payne Haas and will make his debut against Queensland next week, thanks to the eligibility laws changing this year.

While Fonua-Blake has previously been one of the best forwards in the NRL, Alexander reckons that is no longer the case.

"I didn't think he was in good enough form," Alexander says on SEN.

"The thing for me with Addin is he doesn't seem to take it personally. He just rolls through his job, does his hit-ups, bit of footwork. But even that hasn't been as sharp as it has been in previous seasons.

"His ability to get in between defends, it doesn't seem what it was last year or the year before. His last season at the Warriors was incredible.

"If Laurie can get him to take it personally... I think he's got to change the attitude of Fonua-Blake. You need to take it personally when it comes to Origin, especially in the middle."

Penrith legend Greg Alexander was surprised to see Dylan Edwards axed from the Blues side in favour of James Tedesco.

Alexander was a Blues advisor when Brad Fittler was coach, and admits it would have been a tough call to make either way.

"I feel for Dylan," Alexander says on SEN radio.

"Dylan is in better form this year than he was last year. He's been in brilliant form.

"You can't deny Teddy has been in brilliant form. I don't think Laurie could make the wrong decision."

Blues legend Andrew Johns reportedly tried to fire up NSW backrower Haumolo Olakau'atu when he saw him at Magic Round over the weekend.

After Olakau'atu tore the Tigers up, Johns predicted he would be picked in the NSW team and told the towering forward to go after Maroons five-eighth Cameron Munster.

"Cameron Munster said you're a cat," Johns said, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Knock those teeth out."

Johns has a good relationship with Munster but has spoken recently about his ability to fire Queensland to a State of Origin victory.

The Panthers post a glowing photo of winger Tom Jenkins - the NRL's leading tryscorer - shortly after he was snubbed for a NSW Blues debut in favour of Tolu Koula.

An awkward moment in the Billy Slater presser when he's asked if Cameron Munster was in danger of being dropped.

Munster has been in dire form for Melbourne as his Storm have battled through a seven-game losing streak, before beating the Tigers last week.

Slater last year axed captain Daly Cherry-Evans mid-series and is asked if he could do the same with Munster.

"He's the Queensland five-eighth and he's the Queensland skipper," he says after stumbling over the answer and shrugging his shoulders.

"It's good to see all our players in form... we know what Munster's capable of.

"We all have confidence in him."

Billy Slater has seen the NSW team and admits it looks strong.

He speaks specifically about James Tedesco beating Dylan Edwards to the fullback spot for the Blues.

"That's a position I understand, and I understand what those two guys bring," he says.

"They bring slightly different things, but equally as effective. I don't think there was a wrong decision.

"James is so effective with the football, he's getting it often and he's so hard to tackle. We will make sure we do our homework, but our priority will be our game."

Billy Slater says the "most emotional" phone call he made on Sunday night was to Dolphins prop Tom Flegler.

Fleger's career was almost ended by a shoulder injury, but he's back in top form this year.

"Prior to getting that shoulder injury he was one of the best front-rowers in the game," Slater says.

"For him to fight tooth and nail to get back on the field, that speaks volumes of who Tom Flegler is.

"Brought up on a banana farm, he's a tough lad, and we are going to need that toughness. It was a really emotional moment talking to Tom last night."

Billy Slater is now speaking to media in Brisbane.

He is asked about yesterday's reports Kalyn Ponga was set to play halfback, but the coach doesn't go too deep into whether it was close to happening.

"I feel Kalyn's best position is fullback, he knows how to play that position, he's really nailed it," he says.

Slater has gone with Sam Walker at halfback and sort of, kind of, admits that Ponga was considered as an option.

"I don't think you would be doing your due diligence if you didn't look at all options," he says.

"But we really do feel confident about Sam Walker being the best option to play halfback. I know how much he loves this state, growing up in Ipswich.

"I can't wait to see him in camp. He will unlock plenty of the players around him."
