Origin II RECAP: ‘Total domination’ as Cobbo hat-trick seals Maroons win

Darren Lockyer believes there was one clear difference between the teams.

“Very proud of the boys tonight, especially the middles - they did all the hard work and I just did my role for the team,” he told Nine’s Danika Mason.

“Throughout the week, he sees me training on my own and doing extras and it pays off in the game ... I’m working behind the scenes.

“I’m proud of the whole group of boys tonight, it’s a team effort.”

NSW star James Tedesco has spoken after his side’s game two defeat.

“It’s hard to put my finger on ... I think they out-enthused us in most areas,” the Blues fullback told Nine’s Paul Gallen post-game.

“We wanted to get it done tonight and finish the series. We’ve got our backs against the wall, but it will be sweeter to get the win up at Suncorp.”

“I like the way we dug deep and played our best footy at the back-end,” the skipper told Nine’s Darren Lockyer post-game.

“I had so much belief in this group. Everyone talks about pressure ... but simpler the game plan, simpler the mindset. I’m really proud of the boys.”

Sam Walker starred again for Queensland and the captain knows he’s got a gem as a halves partner right now.

“He’s going outstanding - I might have to hang them up soon with the way he’s playing and Tommy Dearden as well,” Munster said.

An outstanding performance from the Maroons, who come from behind with an extraordinary second-half onslaught and force an Origin decider.

Kalyn Ponga taps the ball onto Selwyn Cobbo, who races away and then grubbers it inside for Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to score a try.

Replays show that Ponga was absolutely cleaned up by Kotoni Staggs in a high shot and the Blues centre is sin binned for 10 minutes.

“He comes up out of the play - this is bad,” Andrew Johns said on Nine.

“It reminds me of the Reece Walsh tackle from Joseph Suaalii two years ago.”

The onslaught from the Maroons continues with the Blues down to 12 men.

Harry Grant darts out of dummy-half and links up with Lindsay Collins, who races away to score and put the result beyond doubt.

Lindsay Collins takes a full-blast carry off the back fence and drops it, but pleads for a captain’s challenge and Cameron Munster obliges.

Replays show a loose carry from Collins with a little hand in there from Hudson Young, but the Bunker stick with the on-field decision of a knock on.

Queensland then ask the question about a shoulder charge from Young, but on-field referee Ashley Klein turns it down.

From the ensuing attacking set, NSW narrow the margin as Mark Nawaqanitawase scores a brilliant try in the corner, getting his way past three defenders.
