'This is why fans get frustrated': Paul Gallen fumes as Braydon Trindall high shot penalised

Paul Gallen expressed frustration with the inconsistency of the decision making during Cronulla's clash with Melbourne after Braydon Trindall was penalised for high contact.

14 minutes into the second half, Melbourne were leading 16-8 and on the attack.

Trindall came out of the line and tried to put a hit on Jahrome Hughes who was catching and passing in the air.

Hughes stayed down after Trindall made contact as the play continued before a turnover. The camera then showed Hughes, who had blood coming from his mouth.

Replays showed there was a head clash before Trindall was penalised for high contact.

The penalty led to Gallen bringing up the incident between the Sharks and Raiders last week when Tom Hazleton was knocked out.

"This is why fans get frustrated," he said on Nine.

"We saw the same thing last week ... Tom Starling comes out of the line and has a head clash with Tom Hazelton and he gets knocked out cold and it's play on.

"This week it's a penalty. This is what this is the frustrating thing about the game.

"It changes week to week."

Hazelton was ruled out of the prelim due to concussion from the incident last week.

Neither Hughes or Trindall were sent off for an HIA despite the head clash.
