Pacific Championships RECAP: Collins flattened by massive Olakau'atu hit as Kangaroos hold off plucky Tonga; Jillaroos miss out on 100-0 scoreline as records tumble

Andrew Johns suggested Harry Grant might owe Lindsay Collins a beer or two for delivering the hospital pass that led to that massive hit from Haumole Olakau'atu in the first half.

"He's got me a couple of times now - I must have done something to him. He hits hard that's for sure," Collins told Nine after the match.

"I kind of jinxed myself. I said during the week 'Harry, just hit me, if I get smashed I get smashed', and it ended up happening.

"It's alright. That's my job. I'll take those ones ... it's part of being front rower."

Tommy Dearden scored virtually on the stroke of full time to ice it for the Kangaroos, but Zac Lomax kick went slightly across the face.

"That was as tough as it gets as far as Test match footy is concerned," Nine caller Peter Psaltis said.

"Take a bow Australia, they have come out on top against a gallant Tongan team."

Andrew Johns said the Tongan fans should be proud of their team.

"They will be better for the run. Just need to tweak a couple of things with their attack. Defensively, really strong.

"You could see how much it meant to the Tongan team."

The Kangaroos have the advantage, but they've been unable to make an impression on the scoreline. In fact, they've made a couple of errors.

Tom Trbojevic looked to have score in ther corner, but came up shaking his head. Replays showed he'd had the pill knocked from his hands on the way down.

A couple of plays later, Mitch Moses puts a kick miles out on the full.

"That's a mis-kick, that's way out on the full ... the Kangaroos are rattled here," Cameron Smith said for Nine.

The Tongans can sense something too. They've lifted here. Can they get on the board with a man in the bin?

YES THAT CAN!!

Keaon Koloamatangi has scored under the posts for Tonga and Suncorp has blown up!

Ahhh wait. No he hasn't. Replays showed there was a clear bobble as he tried to smother the bounce off the grubber.

"The game isn't played in super slow-mo. I'm sick of saying it (but) that's unfortunate. You could see there was a bobble there," Andrew Johns said for Nine.

Cameron Smith said he did everything right, but got done over by the bounce.

"Those stabby little grubbers are always hard to pick up or to judge the bounce," he said.

"In a perfect world you try and catch that one or bring that into your chest and dive on it. Unfortunately Koloamatangi couldn't get the ball to the ground."

Tonga are now back to full strength.

Lehi Hopoate has been sent to the sinbin for being not square at marker.

Cameron Murray made a great run towards the try line and Hopoate did a great job to bring him down. But he got up quickly and never got close to getting square and was sent for a spell by referee Gerard Sutton.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Kangaroos elected to take the two, and the lead is beyond two converted tries on the hour mark.

Oh no. The Kangaroos will go straight back on the attack after Isaiya Katoa's kick ended up almost literally in the second row of the stands behind the dead ball line.

Has that just blown this match open for the Kangaroos?

Quick hands got the ball from Moses to Dearden to Trbojevic and then to Hammer who ran some 30m and shrugged off a stack of defenders to score in the corner.

"He put the right fend up into the chest of Alamoti, get out of my way, found another gear ... wow," Cameron Smith said in commentary for Nine.

From the touchline, Lomax kicked lovely little draw and found the centre of the fairway. I mean the black dot.

That's 12-nil now with 25 minutes still remaining.

We're back underway at Suncop Stadium, and the Kangaroos have been awarded a penalty in the first set for a leg lift.

They'll start this next set from the 40m line and go straight on the attack.

What an effort from Tonga! In the shadows of half time, camped on their own tryline, they all looked out on their feet.

Then comes the Hammer! He came off the back fence and crashed over the line, but was somehow held up.

That will give them a bit of confidence going into the second half.

Just a converted try in this match - the Turbo intercept the difference.

Since that Turbo try - which in itself was a little bit against the run of play - Tonga have had all the ball and all the field position, but haven't been able to capitalise.

"They really have the Kangaroos on the back foot here," Cameron Smith said on Nine.

They won a penalty inside the Kangaroos 10m line and looked certain to score, but Keaon Koloamatangi left the butter on his fingers and spilled one early in the count.

It was a huge let-off for the Aussies. This has been a fantastic clash, and there are still 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Lindsay Collins just got absolutely flattened by Haumole Olakau'atu!

Collins spilled the Steeden and then copped all 112kg of the Sea Eagles enforcer.

As he sucked in the big ones on the Suncorp Stadium turf, the boys in the Nine box were wincing and laughing at the same time.

"I want my mummy ... poor Lindsay. You shouldn't laugh," Andrew Johns said as replays were shown.

"That's a good old-fashioned fold. Welcome to international footy, Lindsay," Darren Lockyer added.

But despite gaining field position, the Tongans could do nothing with it. From a really flat line, Tom Trbojevic read a pass perfectly, picked off the intercept, and ran away to score.
