Wests Tigers centre Taylan May has turned back the clock 20 years after producing a flick pass that mirrored the work of his coach Benji Marshall in the 2005 grand final.

May was just before the half way line and passed inside to Sunia Turuva with Nine's caller Brenton Speed saying "we're back to 2005".

Turuva ran back into the centre of the field, evading multiple defenders before Jahream Bula pushed up and finished it off.

"That was as good as it gets ... that was 2005 all over again, flick passes, so good," Andrew Johns said on Nine.

May's effort comes 20 years after the '05 grand final with Marshall's flick pass coming just over the 40 metre line.

The Tigers were wearing the same styled jersey from that grand final which was against the Cowboys. The score was 10-10 in Sunday's clash during the 38th minute. In 2005, it was 6-6 in the 35th minute. Cowboys coach Todd Payten was part of that Tigers side.

"That's freaky," Cameron Smith said of the irony.

Marshall was expressionless on the sideline though.

At half-time, Johnathan Thurston, who played for the Cowboys in 2005, was in awe of the vision from 20 years ago.

"It breaks my heart but what about it," he said.
