'Not that type of guy': Jarome Luai drops hint on future plans as Tigers prepare to face Lachlan Galvin

Jarome Luai has given the strongest indication yet as to where his long-term future lies, claiming he plans on being with the Wests Tigers "for life" on Wednesday.

The club's prized off-season recruit has had a mixed year since leaving the Panthers and with the joint venture staring down the barrel of missing the finals again, Luai's future at Concord has emerged as a topic of discussion.

While the 28-year-old initially signed a five-year contract, it was later revealed that the final three years of that deal with the Tigers had options in his favour.

It means that technically speaking, Luai could become available to rival clubs from November 1 this year for the 2027 season and beyond.

However, when quizzed about it by Nine's Danny Weidler during a press conference, the co-captain moved to quieten the noise and reinforce his commitment to the cause.

"Scoops? Nah, just scoops of ice cream," Luai joked.

"I'm staying, don't worry - for life.

"I think when things get hard, people are sort of expecting you to change and I'm not that type of guy. I'm here for the long run and I'm here to change this club around."

The comments from Luai will be music to the ears of Tigers fans, who haven't seen their club taste premiership success in 20 years or reach the finals since 2011.

Luai says he will continue to wear the orange and black kit for years to come alongside close mate Api Koroisau, who recently knocked back potential offers from the Perth Bears and extended his tenure with the Tigers until the end of 2028.

"He's a big part of this club and a big reason why I signed here," Luai said.

"It's good to see the skip locked in for a few more years, I can't wait to play some more footy with him."

Luai will wear the No.6 jumper this weekend when the Tigers take on a Canterbury outfit that boasts his former halves partner, young gun Lachlan Galvin.

While he understands why the Galvin-Tigers drama will be a big talking point, Luai is adamant that his side is fully focused on getting back in the winner's circle.

"It's not about Lachie, it's not about the Dogs - it's about us," he said.

"That's a story everyone wants to talk about. For us here inside our four walls, it's about us and how we perform on game day. Coming off the back of a loss, my main focus as a player is how I prepare throughout the week and ultimately, how I'm gonna perform. 

"It's all about me and my team." 

Luai's team sits 13th on the ladder with seven wins and 12 losses this year.
