'Not a creator': Queensland great Corey Parker makes bold call as Smith remains in limbo on future

A "rip and tear" positional switch would be a better option for Brandon Smith, amid reports he's drawn interest from the Super League as doubt lingers about his future at the Roosters.

A cloud of uncertainty over Smith's future at the Tricolours still lingers as the club prepares to make way for NSW hooker Reece Robson in 2026.

As speculation mounts, Queensland great Corey Parker has called for the Roosters to provide clarity on his future. of Brandon Smith amid reports he has drawn interest for a Super League switch.

Smith is set to enter the final year of his contract on the sidelines as he continues to recover from an ACL and MCL injury.

Since parting ways with the Melbourne Storm, Smith has struggled to find form and consistency, and was last year also slapped with a breach notice from the club for missing a mid-season review.

Robson's looming arrival at Bondi is widely viewed as a sign Smith is unlikely to be offered an extension.

Shortly before Robson's move to the Roosters was confirmed in December, Smith revealed he'd returned to pre-season training early, but wasn't motivated by the thought of re-signing.

Having drawn interest from the Super League, Parker said a better option would be to switch positions.

"He has an option to go overseas and resurrect his career - I don't think that is the right thing to do," Parker said on SENQ's Breakfast.

"I think personally, he could play in the back row as a lock.

"His best asset is just ripping and tearing. He is not a creator. If you are looking for a creator I don't think he is the man."

"I think Brandon Smith will stay in the NRL, he's got a few clubs that are after him. It's sort of a watch this space (moment)."

With the mass departure of experienced talent during the off-season combined with the high-profile names sidelined with injury, Parker warned that clarity needs to be given to Smith to ensure an early departure does not place the club in a position of disarray.

"Their spine is already depleted so if they lose Brandon Smith they need somebody for that void," said Parker.

"If he is to depart and he's able to do it sooner rather than later then they will be able to put some steps in place to work out who'll play in the role.

"It would be good for Brandon Smith and for everyone involved if they can have some clarity on what all of that looks like moving forward."
