RE-LIVE: Insane Jackson Hastings field goal ices biggest upset of NRL season as Tigers trump Eels in thriller

Jackson Hastings is the hero in just his third game back in the NRL following a three-year absence.

On his return from a suspension, Hastings took the No.7 jumper from Luke Brooks and led the team around the park.

He then slotted the winning field goal.

It was the team's first win of the season, and the first for Hastings as a Tiger.

"There's only one way to show that you care about something, and that's to go out there and put on a performance like that," he said.

"We finally did it. We will celebrate tonight. But it's one win out of six mate... we've got a tough game next week.

"It's hard to believe, but we have actually been happy with glimpses of our performance. But glimpses aren't good enough in the NRL, playing against the best players in the world.

"We have a look in our eyes when we were going out to warm up, I just knew we were on. I felt this calmness, this collectiveness.

"Luke Brooks... get off his back for a week. What a performance."

While thrilled with the win, Hastings is realistic there's a lot of work to be done before the Tigers are considered a finals chance.

"It's an infectious feeling. There's a few boys in the side that have been lucky enough to play finals, and play internationals and Origins," he said.

"But we want the whole club to get there, we want to be consistent. We need to keep building on this and string some wins together."

He's copped more than his fair share of bashing over the years, but the smile on Luke Brooks' face after full-time could have melted hearts.

The highly-paid star was shifted from halfback to five-eighth for this game, and it once again drew commentary about his $950,000 salary and the fact he has never played a finals game in a decade in the NRL.

But before half time Michael Ennis was labelling the switch "a masterstroke" by coach Michael Maguire.

Brooks was asked by Fox League what he would say to Maguire in the sheds, and whether he would give him a hug.

Brooks conceded he and Maguire had been under tremendous heat.

"Yeah, both of us have been," he smiled.

"I don't know... we'll have a beer."

The smile on Brooks' face was one of relief.

"I guess it just shows that when we're at our best, we can match it with anyone," he said.

Jackson Hastings nailed a long-range field goal to ice what must be the biggest upset of the season to date.

Tigers were paying more than $8 to beat the Eels.

The Eels have now lost Tom Opacic to what looks like a throat injury, after being palmed off by Luciano Leilua.

Some carnage in this game for both sides.

The Tigers have lost young hooker Jake Simpkin to a badly rolled ankle.

He's on the stretcher and it looks like a serious one.

Parramatta hits back through a try to Reed Mahoney.

The Eels need to knuckle down hard now to avoid a huge upset.
