Aussie youngster handed ‘lifelong dream’ with MotoGP seat

Australian rider Senna Agius is officially stepping up to the premier class of motorcycle racing, securing a MotoGP seat with Tech3 KTM.

The 21-year-old will partner with veteran driver Luca Marini under the leadership of F1 Drive to Survive cult star Guenther Steiner.

Agius first captured attention when he claimed his debut Moto2 podium in his home grand prix in Australia in 2024, finishing third from 13th on the grid.

With another stroke of hometown luck, his second Moto2 victory came at Phillip Island in 2025.

Now sitting fourth in this season’s Moto2 championship after 14 rounds, Agius has firmly cemented his status as one of the sport’s most exciting rising stars.

“A lifelong dream of mine has come true, reaching MotoGP,” Agius said.

This news comes as veteran Aussie rider, Jack Miller, is set to depart the MotoGP paddock, making a move to the World Superbike Championship with Yamaha.

Agius, born in Sydney, will join MotoGP as it introduces a new era. The category will downsize from the 1000cc engines to 850cc units and with Agius signing the dotted line, the category has named all 22 riders for 2027.

“We believe Senna has the qualities to make a very strong step into MotoGP,” team boss Steiner said.

“He has shown impressive speed and maturity in Moto2, but what really stood out to us was his determination to keep improving and his attitude towards the work required to succeed.

“We are building a team for a completely new era of MotoGP, and we wanted to combine experience with young talent.”

Miller debuted in MotoGP in 2015, when Agius was only 10 years old.
