Cam Waters dominates Supercars opener as Broc Feeney rues 'stupid mistake'
Cameron Waters has started his Supercars title charge in the best way possible, taking a dominant victory in the season-opener in Sydney.
But while the Ford gun cruised to arguably the most dominant win of his career, Broc Feeney was left ruing a "stupid mistake" that cost him a podium.
Under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park, Feeney was running second when he ran wide at the exit of turn three and "shredded" his left-rear tyre on the edge of the track.

Feeney was one of dozens to make the same mistake at that spot, but was the only one unlucky enough to pick up a puncture.
To compound the issue, after dumping a stack of time limping back to the pits, the mechanic fitting the replacement tyre cross-threaded the wheel nut, which further delayed his return to the track.
He eventually emerged plum last in 25th. He would recover to 14th by the end of the race.
"I just made a mistake at the end of the day," he told Fox Motorsport after the race.
"I knew we were pitting that lap, I had the tiniest moment out of (corner) three and my rear tyres fall over the edge.
"I would have been better to have a big slide off and just run off but as I've come back on (the tyre) just shredded to pieces and I got a flat.
"I got it back to the pits without crashing, but we then we were dead last.
"Gutted for the team, we certainly weren't going to catch Cam but we were a P2 car today. Stupid little mistake has cost us."
Starting from pole position, Waters got the jump on Feeney into the first corner, and was never seen again. He won the 26-lap affair by an incredibly 16.8 seconds over Chaz Mostert and teammate Thomas Randle.

Matt Payne finished fourth to make it a Ford Mustang 1-4, ahead of reigning champion Will Brown and 2023 champion Brodie Kostecki on his debut for Dick Johnson Racing.
Speaking to Weekend Today on Saturday morning, Waters praised the team for turning around their fortunes, having suffered an awful start to the 2024 season.
"It's super important (to get off to a good start). Last year it was pretty well the opposite – we really, really struggled," he said.
"So 12 months on, to start the year like that with a fast race car and get a race win, hopefully we can build some momentum on that and get another couple of wins this weekend."
