Rekindling edges Johannes Vermeer and Max Dynamite to give Corey Brown his second win at Melbourne Cup. He also finished first with Shocking in 2009.
Johannes Vermeer made his move with about 400 metres to go until Rekindling, who had jumped from barrier four, emerged to lay down a serious challenge before he started overhauling him with 100 metres to go.
Brown admitted that he chased Lloyd Williams for the ride on Rekindling, and also trainer Joseph O'Brien, who gave him the prized mount on the strength of his resume.
Brown also said that he had never met Joseph O'Brien prior to taking on the job of riding Rekindling.
Lloyd Williams had six of the 23 horses in the 2017 Melbourne Cup adding to his collection of Cup victories with his sixth triumph at Flemington, a new record.
Corey Brown was so pumped after the win he threw his race goggles into the crowd. The Jockey was met by his wife and three daughters after the race and was overcome by emotion.
And this bloke was the lucky one to have plucked them from the air after Brown threw them into the crowd.
Someone had a bit too much fun at Flemington ...
It's hard to tell what's going on here. Under normal circumstances one would be worried by this image. But it's Melbourne Cup day.
