Formula One driver Fernando Alonso's salary is set to jump, with current team Ferrari hoping to ward off interest from rivals McLaren Mercedes.
The Italian giants have begun contract talks with the Spaniard after rumours emerged that McLaren were preparing a $75 million deal to lure Alonso.
However, it is believed Ferrari are willing to top up Alonso’s current contract to the tune of $45 million to keep their star.
