Newcastle United manager set to backflip and quit club
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is reportedly set to quit his role, backflipping on his decision to stay with the club at the end of last season.
In May, the club had acknowledged finishing 12th in the 2025/26 Premier League season wasn’t good enough but both Newcastle and Howe decided to stick together.

That plan has now unravelled after The Athletic revealed Howe will leave his post with Al Ahli’s Matthias Jaissle tipped to replace him.
In 2025, Howe ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a trophy by winning the Carabao Cup.
The Athletic has reported that Howe told the club he wants a break from football having started his role in November 2021.
Howe was employed shortly after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund completed a majority ownership takeover of Newcastle. Newcastle was 19th on the table at the time.
Howe led Newcastle to safety in the Premier League before securing Champions League qualification with a fourth-place finish in 2022/23.
Newcastle has struggled to kick on to Premier League dominance since then despite the Carabao Cup triumph.
The club has reached an intriguing point in its progress with Anthony Gordon sold to Barcelona along with Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes is tipped to leave the club as well with Premier League champions Arsenal seriously interested.
