Sydney FC cop two losses in a row after Michael Ruhs' dramatic last-gasp winner for Western United

Western United have pulled off an almighty upset in the A-League, defeating Sydney FC 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

The John Aloisi coached side came into the match in 10th while the Sky Blues were seventh and had the home ground advantage at Allianz Stadium.

"That performance solidifies all that hard work we've put in and we're going in the right direction," player of the match Matthew Sutton told Paramount+.

"It's very exciting time to be a Western United supporter, a very young, inexperienced team but when you play like that, you can see the potential.

"We've got some really good talent, there's a bit of a conveyer belt at Western United now.

"You can see the closeness, they've all grown up playing together and when they get on the park like that it's just effortless."

While Sydney FC would've come into the match hoping to stay in touch with the top six, it was Western United scoring first.

Noah Botic, 22, was the man with his name on the scoresheet with a tap in but right before half-time Sydney's Adrian Segecic scored a brace to make it 2-1 at the break.

By the 62nd minute though the lead had changed after goals from Abel Walatee and Rhys Bozinovski.

Moments later, there was another goal through Rhyan Grant who headed home an equaliser into the bottom right corner with the score 3-3.

With three minutes before injury time, it was despair for the home fans and delight for Aloisi and his crew.

On the back of defending an attacking raid, Western United went on the counter-attack with Michael Ruhs in on goal.

Ruhs then lifted the finish over Andrew Redmayne to steal victory in the dying moments before following it up with a Marcus Rashford style celebration, pointing to his head.
