Stumps on day one
ADELAIDE: That will do us here from the Adelaide Oval.
It's fair to say proceedings are evenly poised at the moment.
Australia finishes 8-326 with crucial innings' from Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey.
A big day ahead tomorrow with all eyes on how England approaches its craft.
New ball taken
ADELAIDE: A shiny red ball at Adelaide Oval appears.
And it's not Jofra Archer bowling first, instead it's the skipper Ben Stokes.

Fine knock comes to an end
ADELAIDE: Alex Carey walks off for a brilliant 106 after a mistimed shot.
The centurion tried to sweep Will Jacks but the ball was just too far outside off stump.
Instead Carey skied it and Jamie Smith did the rest.
Australia now eight wickets down.
It's a hometown ton!
ADELAIDE: It's a beautiful day for Alex Carey!
The South Australian has his third Test match hundred and it's a big cheer from the Adelaide Oval with a 'Carey' chant coming from around the ground.
"An emotional hundred," Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket in reference to Carey's father recently passing in September.
"A quality hundred by a quality bloke."
The cameras then panned to Carey's wife who was in tears.
"A magical moment," Gilchrist added.

Carey into the 90s
ADELAIDE: Alex Carey moving along here.
He pushed to 90 with a beautiful drive through the covers. Then moved to 92 with a slightly risky lofted cover drive.
He's now on 93 after 68 overs.
We have a review
ADELAIDE: Pat Cummins has sent a decision upstairs.
The captain was given out caught at short leg and appears to think he hasn't inside edged it.
But ultra edge shows a spike near the bat and Cummins is on his way.
A very loud cheer from the Barmy Army roared across Adelaide Oval when that spike appeared.
Australia is 7-271.
Another review burned
Huge appeal from England for a caught-behind, but the umpire turns it down despite some type of noise when the ball went past the bat.
Stokes sends it upstairs for a review, but there was a gap between bat and ball.
Two DRS calls go Carey's way today.
Alex Carey's caught behind appeal is denied Fox Cricket
Inglis knocked over
Inglis attempts to drive off the back foot but edges it safely through the slips.
His luck runs out in the same over, chopping on a delivery from Tongue onto his stumps and his innings comes to an end for 32 off 39 balls.
The wicket brings captain Cummins to the crease.
