Australian legend Glenn McGrath pulled from ABC commentary duties two days out from Ashes series

Glenn McGrath has been sensationally pulled from his commentary duties for the Ashes, just days out from the series beginning in Perth.

The legendary Australian bowler was slated to be part of the ABC broadcast team, but those plans have been squashed, reports The Age.

The reason for McGrath's axing is due to his affiliation with gambling company bet365, where he will be part of a campaign alongside Ricky Ponting.

The 55-year-old had become a regular fixture on the radio station's cricket coverage in recent years, but will now be replaced in the rotation by Tom Moody.

McGrath's camp reportedly informed ABC officials of his commercial arrangement a month out from the first Test and was aware of the potential ramifications.

His team declined to comment when contacted by The Age, while the ABC offered a brief confirmation to Nine regarding the split.

"The ABC and Glenn McGrath have mutually parted ways for this Ashes," a spokesperson said in a statement.

"We look forward to seeing Glenn around the grounds throughout the series and would welcome working with him in the future. Our great commentary team, led by Jim Maxwell and Corbin Middlemas, is excited for the first test in Perth this Friday.

Darren Lehmann, Jason Gillespie and Stuart Clark are among the notable names who will be part of the ABC's coverage of the five-game series.
