Cameron Green returns in style as he hits century on debut with English county club Gloucestershire

Cameron Green wasted no time showcasing what he can do upon return from back surgery as he hit a century in his first appearance of the season with Gloucestershire.

The 25-year-old has been stuck on the sidelines since September last year, having undergone surgery for a stress fracture in his back in October.

Green made his debut with the UK county team on Saturday (AEST) and reached a century off 171 balls before he was forced to retire due to a cramp.

Green hit a single after raising the bat before signalling to his batting partner to stretch out his legs while he kept his pads on.

The act was short lived as Green swiftly departed moments later.

The Australian star confirmed that the cramping would not impact his return on day two of the action as he would just need a "good night's sleep" to overcome the pain.

"It's been eight long months on the sidelines so to get back out here was very special," Green said after exiting the field.

"One hundred per cent, I'm proud [of his efforts]. It's always a good way to start your tenure."

Green's century was the tenth time a player has achieved the feat on debut with the club.

Green will feature for Gloucestershire in five four-day red-ball matches as he sets his sights on putting his name into contention for Australia selection.

His duties with the UK county team will come to an end in late May.

Gloucestershire currently play in the second division where fellow Australian teammate Cameron Bancroft serves as captain.

Green will likely not bowl on day two when his team returns for Kent's first innings on Sunday (AEST).
