Australian Test star Nathan Lyon was concussed during a trial game for NSW Blues on Tuesday.

Cricket NSW revealed the off-spinner "was injured while fielding late in the day" on day one of a three-day match.

He has been withdrawn from the remainder of the game but is hopeful of being fit to line up for the Blues in their Sheffield Shield opener against Victoria at Drummoyne Oval on Wednesday next week.

The 33-year-old – known as the GOAT as he's Australia's greatest-ever Test finger-spinner – had taken 1-79 from 20 overs bowled before suffering the concussion.

The news comes barely a week after it was revealed Test young gun Will Pucovski had suffered another concussion.

Pucovski has battled ongoing concussion issues already in his early career.

Australia will be hoping both players are fit to be picked for the Ashes, set to get underway on December 8.
