Sheffield Shield batter Jake Weatherald scolded for bizarre helmet-kicking incident
South Australian batter Jake Weatherald raised the ire of Queensland players in a bizarre incident during their Sheffield Shield clash in Adelaide.
The Redbacks were 0-22 after eight overs of their second innings at Karen Rolton Oval, having been forced to follow-on after falling 197 runs short of the Bulls' first-innings total.
Weatherald opened the batting with Henry Hunt and the pair put on 58 before the first wicket fell.

But the batter caused some controversy before he was caught out for 26.
It was at the end of the eighth over when Weatherald and Hunt met in the middle of the pitch for a chat, as the Queenslanders changed ends. Bulls player Matthew Renshaw was carrying a spare helmet, and he bizarrely decided to put it down in front of the stumps at one end, instead of directly behind the stumps where it would be OK to sit.

Weatherald walked back to his crease and, upon seeing the opposition helmet sitting between his mark and the stumps, wound his right leg up and booted the protective lid as far as he could, sending the helmet rolling along the grass.
Bulls captain Usman Khawaja took exception to the incident as Queensland players retrieved the helmet and inspected it for damage.
The umpire also walked over and spoke to Weatherald, although it could be argued Renshaw should never have placed the helmet where he did in the first place.
