EXCLUSIVE: Mark Taylor's Aussie player ratings after crushing first Test defeat
Australia has a lot to address after the enormous defeat to India in the first Test.
Some players in particular are under huge pressure following the loss by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur.
Here are my Aussie player ratings for the match.

David Warner: 1/10
Davey in India ... it's not his favourite place to play. That's an understatement. He's averaging 22 in India, where he doesn't have bounce or pace on the ball. He hasn't had that in the past in India and he's not going to get it at all in this series, but he's going to have to find a way to conquer batting in India if he stays in the side. India is a unique place to play.
Usman Khawaja: 1/10
Like Warner, Usman Khawaja didn't do much to contribute unfortunately. That was a disappointing dismissal on day three. Got a wide one and went after it and was caught at first slip. That was disappointing, particularly when you see how the guys who did well in this match batted. They watched the ball closely, worked for their 30 or 40 runs. It was a strange shot by Khawaja.

Marnus Labuschagne: 5/10
I thought he played pretty well in the first innings. When he and Steve Smith came together they were two down for not many and had to resurrect Australia from a very poor position. Marnus did well to make 49 from there. He just unfortunately didn't kick on to make that big score.
Steve Smith: 5/10
Similarly to Marnus, it was disappointing that Smith didn't kick on for a big score and help set Australia up in the first innings. But Smith showed, like on previous tours of India, that he's got the technique and also the temperament to score runs in those conditions.
Matthew Renshaw: 1/10
To leave Travis Head out for Matthew Renshaw was a bold, bold move. I still can't quite see the logic behind it, considering Renshaw is not yet a proven player against spin bowling. That was a strange selection and he had a match to forget.
Peter Handscomb: 4/10
He was probably a little unlucky in the second innings. Given not out and was out on review. But he's got the softer hands and players a little bit later than most, so you can see why they believe he's going to be useful in India. He has that adaptability, more so than many others in the top six. Good of him to make 30-odd in the first innings but, like Smith and Labuschagne, ideally he would have gone on for a big score.
Alex Carey: 6/10
I thought he kept well in tricky conditions. Took some fine catches off Todd Murphy's bowling. Did well with the bat with his 36. He's obviously going to try and be aggressive, which is the way he plays with the bat. Got out reverse-sweeping, which is a shot I don't particularly like, but he obviously likes it. Among the few good Aussies in the match.

Pat Cummins: 4/10
It's never going to be easy for Pat Cummins bowling in India on those pitches. That's just the way it is. After his initial poor spell I thought he came back well. Removed Rohit Sharma with a brilliant delivery. I don't think he could have done much more as captain. He was a bit limited with the side they chose. When you've got two right-arm quicks and two right-arm off-spinners as your four-man attack it's very difficult to do much more with that.
Todd Murphy: 9/10
What a terrific debut. To bowl 47 overs on Test debut in one innings is enormous, and he bowled very well to take seven wickets. Bowled with very impressive control and had some troubling variations. Got huge reward for effort.

Nathan Lyon: 4/10
I've always been worried about Nathan Lyon in India because he's the sort of bowler who likes pace, bounce and over-spin in the pitch, more so than side-spin and natural variation. Todd Murphy is much more like Ravichandran Ashwin than Lyon is. Unfortunately Lyon didn't have much of an impact in Nagpur.
Scott Boland: 3/10
Went wicketless but toiled manfully. Like with Cummins, those conditions aren't going to suit Scott Boland. In the games for Australia that he's done well, which is nearly all of them, the ball has nipped around off the pitch. Bowled very good line and length in Nagpur and was very economical, but couldn't break through for wickets.
