A Mankad attempt set tempers alight at Adelaide Oval on New Years Eve as the Perth Scorchers claimed a seven-wicket victory over the Strikers.

Whacked for 18 off his first over, England all-rounder Jamie Overton issued a warning to Scorchers star Finn Allen that sparked a fiery exchange.

Overton removed the bails at the non-striker's end as Allen, clearly out of his crease, attempted to gain an advantage.

The Mankad attempt did not sit lightly with Allen and the umpire, who did not react favourably to the dismissal warning.

Overton clearly did not want to carry through with the appeal but was fed up with the batters attempting to sneak ground.

The bowler then exchanged fiery words with the batters at the change of overs.

"He did say to the umpire, no that's the warning," Brad Haddin said on Fox Cricket.

"I think that confrontation with Allen has got under his skin.

"He's a competitor Overton.... That confrontation a couple of overs ago is still right there on the surface."

"This has become very heated between this pair Finn Allen and Jamie Overton," Kerry O'Keeffe added.

Allen was seen shaking his head as Overton continued on with the over, but the Scorchers star got the last laugh, whacking his rival's final delivery for a six.

The New Zealand batter survived a dropped catch on 11 and opted to make the most of his time in the middle, finding a half-century off 23 balls.

Asked about his feud with Overton, Allen admitted that "emotions get high in games."

"We just exchange a little smile and thumbs up before [following the match] so all is good now."

Overton's time with the bat did not go much better as he was dismissed for one run.
