Novak Djokovic left 'gobsmacked' as Marcus Stoinis falls after almost hitting Marvel Stadium roof

Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic was left wide-eyed and open-mouthed at the BBL as Marcus Stoinis was caught on the boundary after appearing to almost hit the Marvel Stadium roof with his shot.

The Melbourne Stars were in trouble early at 4-55 against their rivals the Renegades.

Stoinis then launched a Tom Rogers delivery high in the air during the eighth over before Kane Richardson took a catch on the boundary.

The camera then panned to Djokovic who looked stunned in the crowd.

"Stoinis can't believe it, Novak Djokovic can't believe it," caller Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.

Stoinis then looked up to the roof with the ball going incredibly close before he was caught.

"Novak (is) gobsmacked, can't believe it," Adam Gilchrist said.

"That was so close to the roof, he's smacked that so high, a brilliant catch on the edge of the boundary," Michael Vaughan added.

Gilchrist then clarified the rule about hitting the roof is up to the umpire's discretion about whether it would've been a six.

Previously it's been a dead ball or six.

Djokovic was later spotted taking selfies in the crowd before heading up the tunnel.

The Stars would later recover their innings with Glenn Maxwell hitting a 52-ball 90 as his side finished all out for 165.

Maxwell's night ended in victorious fashion with the Renegades bowled out for 123.
